Academics Standard

Rajkumar College is divided into three wings viz. Senior Classes (Main Building) - VI to XII, Middle Classes (MP House) - II to V and Junior Classes (Tagore House) - Play Group to I. The academic standard of the College has throughout remained of a high order. Quite a large number of students have passed out of the College with distinction and high first division results. The students have done equally well in professional colleges and universities. To ensure all round development, emphasis is laid on both modern and traditional teaching. As regards modern teaching, class rooms are equipped with cutting edge modern digital classroom provided by M/s. Tata Class Edge : Smart Classroom Solutions. Moreover all three sections of the college have state-of-the-art computer labs with qualified staff. The College Management is also negotiating with reputed foreign Universities to initiate Exchange Programmes for the teachers and the students as well to start a Business School after Class XII. As regards traditional teaching, the college has a fully staffed and equipped music department and arts section. The College Management is in negotiation with the Indira Fine Arts & Music University, Khairagarh (C.G.) - the one and the only university of its kind in India, to start Diploma and Degree courses to enable the students to obtain additional qualification in Fine Arts, Music and Dance.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum in the earlier years prepared the Kumar`s for the Chief`s College Diploma and the College had the credit of securing the best Diploma results for several years, compared with other Chief`s Colleges. The College started presenting boys for the Cambridge Examination in 1942 replacing the Chief`s College Diploma Examination. The Cambridge Examination continued in this College till 1963 and later on an Indian Board with the local syndicate in Delhi, was established to conduct the examination on the Cambridge pattern.

The College at present, is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi and prepares the students for Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Class X) and Indian School Certificate (Class XII) examinations. The College has classes from Nursery to XII with each class having three to four sections, and each section having about 25-30 students, an ideal strength for effective teaching. The students take class X examination at about the age of sixteen. The medium of instruction is English but it lays equally strong emphasis on Hindi. The subjects taught in the normal curriculum are English , Hindi/Oriya, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, Commerce, Accounts, Music, Fine Arts etc., thus the College boasts of having all the three major streams i.e. Science, Arts & Commerce. The subjects taught are prone to alteration, as laid down by the Council for the I.S.C. Examinations, New Delhi from time to time.


AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aim of the College is to prepare boys academically, physically, psychologically and morally in secular environment for entering any walk of life. This is achieved by seeking to develop character, promote espirit-de-corps and dedication to a purpose by inducing a patriotic outlook and desire to serve the country in any capacity with efficiency, industry and zeal. The overall emphasis is focussed on achievement of an all-round development of the child into a young man and woman possessing a maximum of those values which will make him or her a better human being or a constructive citizen of the country. In specific terms, the objectives we hope to achieve are :-

  1. To recognise and to encourage talents of all kinds and of all degrees, and to endeavour to stretch the intellectual and creative capacity of individuals.

  2. To pay particular attention in stimulating intellectual curiosity, to encourage clear thinking, and to develop an interest in the process and resources of learning and in learning how to learn. “First main task of the College, is to prove its national importance. This has been made possible by :-

    • Counseling parents, where necessary, to encourage their sons and daughters to seek independent honorable careers.

    • Providing courses of higher studies that directly prepare students for good careers in which there are likely to be openings.

    • Preparing students for the Civil Services, Defense Services, Engineering, Medical, Business, Accounting and imparting
      administrative training.”

    • Facilities to develop one`s personality by having access to state of the art sports, music and art facilities


SCHOLARSHIP

The College awards a number of scholarships to outstanding students of the school, mainly for academic excellence :
1. The Principal’s scholarships numbering twelve, are awarded to one student in each class from Class I to Xll, which is 50% of the Annual Fee on their securing first rank in a separately conducted scholarship test each year and on obtaining a minimum of 75% aggregate marks. The scholarship is awarded for one year only.
2. Shri B.C. Tiwari Memorial scholarship is awarded each year to the student who secures highest marks in Science in the I.C.S.E. Examination.
3. Shri Shankar Pratap Deo of Dhenkanal Memorial scholarship is awarded for Environmental Studies.
4. l.P.S.C. Trust Scholarships are awarded on the Recommendation of the Principal.


TUTORIALS AND CAREER COUNSELLING

The College has a tutorial system for improving the academic standard of the weak ones. Extra coaching apart, the College also provides facilities for pre-medical and pre-engineering classes for the students in classes XI and XII. The lectures are given by the experts selected by the Principal. The College also has a Career Counseling Cell to provide information about the careers to be chosen by the students
